Corporate Identity –
Professional Presence Required

By Mark Huesman

Many businesses do not put enough resources into creating, maintaining and improving a healthy corporate identity. Some businesses believe their corporate identity is what customers think about the employees who interact directly with them; answering telephone calls or greeting them in-store. This narrow-minded thinking may be cause for loss of sales.

Corporate identity is the "persona" of a corporation which is designed to fit the objectives and mission of the company. Corporate identity is usually expressed by its brand identity and the use of registered trademarks. Attractive, well-thought and well-conceived personification of the company is an important element of corporate identity.

It is usually the corporate look that customers think of when they think of a business. Therefore it is very crucial for a company or a business to give a positive, upbeat public feel about their corporation, so that they get a optimistic response from their prospective or current customers.

Corporate identity is composed of three significant elements:
1. Corporate Design
2. Corporate Communication
3. Corporate Behavior

Corporate design, such as a logo, is probably the first impression that a potential customer has about your company. For instance, if you are an entertainment or events company with a dull, boring logo that does not have an edge to it, the impression will be the same from your customers. Iif you are a tech related company and your logo is sharp, swift and technical, that’s the exact first impression that your customer will have of you and your business. Therefore, it is important to create a visual identity for your logo, so that it is easily remembered, recognized and distinguished from the logos of your competitors. In order to create a strong, visual corporate identity, marketing materials, such as a complimentary designed Web site, paves the way for a professional, reliable and dependable corporate identity of your business.

Your corporate identity is also an important attraction mechanism for your company; therefore it must look good and be aesthetically pleasing to the customer. It should also have a conceptual meaning behind it, in accordance with what products and/or services your business provides. Your logo must be a strong visual aspect of your company, because it expresses the structure and corporate culture of an organization. Your logo is a first good step in presenting your company professionally in the business market. Supporting marketing materials, as mentioned before must also be thoughtfully designed and professional written. If not, you may likely lose that potential customer, and most assuredly a great deal more.
